About: Movement and Creation are happening at Frame Dance Studio this summer at our Round and Round, Color Stories, and Everything Grows Art and Dance Camps!

Each camp features art and dance-making using a variety of activities and prompts based on the weekly theme

Round and Round

Goals: Create and adjust pathways for movement. Connect 2D maps and movement prompts to movement through space. Make thoughtful choices about how to move through pathways.

Questions: How do pathways determine the ways we move? How do we decide where to build pathways? What variations of pathways and qualities of movement can we discover?

Materials: Marbles and marble runs, planets, spirographs, painter’s tape, and weaving.

Pathways and Possibilities

Goals: Examine decision-making and how a collection of decisions creates a pattern or pathway. Be able to describe our artistic choice-making criteria and intentions. Be able to recognize and create sophisticated pathways and patterns. Create a dance as a group using a thoughtful presentation and feedback process.

Questions: How and why do we make the decisions we make? How does one choice influence others? Are artistic choices different than other kids of choices? How can we create patterns and pathways that are interesting, informative, and enjoyable? How do rules and parameters effect our decisions, patterns, and pathways?

Materials: Journals, cameras, sketchbooks, art supplies, and curious minds.

Color Stories

Goals: Understand primary colors, color combining, color spectrums, and how we see color. Find ways to relate color theory to movement, and to create movement in response to colors.

Questions: What are light waves and the visible light spectrum? How are colors made? How do colors relate to each other and how do different colors affect the way we feel? Can we move in a red way? A dark way? A bright and vibrant way? A soft and pastel way?

Materials: Food coloring, bubbles, colored paper, paint and other coloring supplies, prisms, colorful scarves and ribbons.

Everything Grows

Goals: observe and consider what plants need to grow and how their shape and movement helps them survive and thrive. Consider the structures that keep them balanced. Experience different shapes and structures that dancers use in stillness and in movement.

Questions: What can plants teach us about moving our bodies in dance? Can we root down and stretch out like a tree? What structures in our bodies keep us in balance? How do people and artists get the nourishment that helps us grow?

Materials: Seeds, soil, plants, mobiles, blocks, play dough, cameras.
